Q: I never received the registration email, what do I do?
A:The first step is to check your spam/junk mail folder. The registration email comes from notify@jott.com, so adding that address to your white list is always a good idea. If you are registering with a work or school email, the server might be filtering out the validation email before it reaches you. Try registering with a Hotmail, Yahoo!, or Gmail address, or check with your IT department and ask them to permit emails from notify@jott.com. If you're still not having any luck, please fill out a support form and we will send you a new one!

Q: I entered in my email address incorrectly when registering, what should I do?
A: From the website: If you entered the wrong email address, please fill out the registration form again.
From the iPhone app: Email validation is not required to complete registration. If you have not yet validated your phone, click "Go back to Registration", enter in the correct email address and click "next". If you already validated your phone, login at Jott.com and go to the Emails section of the My Account page. Add the correct email address and delete the invalid one.

Q: I entered the wrong phone number when registering, what should I do?
A: From the website: Click the validation link in your email again, on the right side of your validation page, under "Trouble?" click, "Change my phone number" and enter in your correct phone number. If you no longer have the validation link, you can always start the registration process over again with your correct phone number.
From the iPhone app: Click "Go back to Registration", enter in the correct phone number and click "next".

Q: When I call Jott to validate my phone it does not ask me for my validation code. Why not?
A:If you are not asked for your validation code then we are not able to connect your caller ID with your registration record. This can happen for one of two reasons: you entered in your phone number incorrectly when registering (click here for instructions on how to change it), or we are not picking up your caller ID correctly.
If you're sure you entered your phone number correctly, and are not calling from Canada or a multiline system, make sure your caller ID is not blocked and try calling our alternate number 347-523-8843. If you are calling from a multiline system click here. If you are calling from Canada click here.

Q: How do I validate my email if I registered through Jott for iPhone?
A: If you signed up for Jott when you downloaded the Jott for iPhone app, you'll first need to log on at Jott.com using your phone number and password you created when you downloaded the app. Click on the My Account page link in the upper right hand corner and then the Emails tab. There you will see your email and a link asking you to validate it. Click on that link and you'll be sent a validation email. If you do not receive the email, please fill out the support form and we'll send one to you!

Q: Can I register for Jott from a phone that is part of a multiline system?
A: If every phone in your system sends out its correct and unique caller ID, then yes, it will work with Jott. If your multiline system has one or two core caller IDs it projects, it is recommended that you register with your mobilel phone or personal landline instead.

Q: Can I register for Jott through the iPhone application if I am in Canada?
A: No, please sign up at www.jott.com before downloading Jott for iPhone, then login using your credentials once you are signed up. iPhone account validation is currently only working in the US due to text-messaging limitations.

Q: When I click the registration link, I am not taken to the validation page, what is wrong?
A: If you have not already completed your registration, then your email client might be modifying the html in our email and making the link invalid.
Return to your validation email; below the clickable link you will find a URL that looks something like this: jott.com/register_final.aspx?r=2ad2435c-ce2f-4c3f-9aff-1454447ead7e &p=2065555555&v=mpfc1x
Cut and paste the entire URL from your email into your browser, the URL is not clickable, but will be valid if you cut and paste it.

A: You can only register for Jott with a US or Canadian telephone number.

Q: How do I change my password?
A: First click the link to the My Account page that appears at the top of the Inbox page. From there, go to the Security section. You will see a link to "change my password". Enter your old password, your new password and the confirmation of your new password, click "Save" and you are good to go.

Q: Can I change my email registered to my Jott account?
A:You sure can! Log on at Jott.com and go to the My Account page. Select the Emails tab and you will see options to add, delete or set an email address as your primary contact. You always need to have at least one email address registered with us, so if you are changing your email account, add the new one and set it to primary before you delete the old one.

Q: Can I add a second email address to my account?
A: Yes. To add a new number to your account, login in at Jott.com and go to the My Account page. Click the Emails tab, then "add a new email address" and enter the address you wish to add. A validation email will then be sent to that address. Click the link in that validation email and you'll be all set.

Q: Can I add an additional phone number to my existing Jott account?
A: Yes, add a new number to your account by logging in at Jott.com, going to the My Account page and then clicking the Phones tab. Click "add a new phone number" and enter the 10 digit number you wish to add. A 4-digit validation code will then appear; call 866-JOTT-123 or your local Canadian number from your new number and enter in the validation code.

Q: How do I change my phone number?
A: Login to your account, go to the My Account page and click the Phones tab. Click "add a new phone number" and enter the 10 digit number you wish to add. A four digit validation code will then appear. Call 866-JOTT-123 or your local Canadian number from your new number and enter in the validation code. Once your phone is validated you will be able to set it to primary and delete your old number. If your number hasn't been validated, you cannot set it to primary. This will also change your Jott login to your new number.

Q: How do I delete my Jott Account?
A: Please fill out a support form and request that your account be deleted. Be sure to provide your registered name, email address and phone number when you send in your request. Once we have received your request and deleted your account, you will receive an email confirmation that your account has been closed. Deleting your account is permanent; there is no way to reinstate your account once it has been deleted.

Q: I am from Canada, why can't I create a Jott note when I call 1-866-JOTT-123?
A: Jott requires caller ID to know who is sending a Jott to what contact information. In an effort to protect your privacy, most Canadian mobile providers have blocked caller ID information from being passed to toll free numbers. This leaves the alternative of using local access numbers across the country, so that everyone can send Jott messages without having to pay long distance fees.

Q: Are there hotkeys I can use when I callJott?
A: When you hear "Who do you want to Jott?". You can press "1" to create a Jott Note, "2" to record your name, "4" to set a reminder and "6" to access Jott Feeds.
If you press "1" while recording a Jott, it makes the Jott an "instant Jott", the Jott will not be transcribed and will be sent out immediately. If you press any other key besides "1" when recording a Jott, it will end your recording.
When asked "Want a reminder?" you can press "1" for "yes" and "2" for "no".

Q: How do I create a Jott Note?
A: From your mobile phone: Call 866-JOTT-123 or your local Canadian number, when asked "Who do you want to Jott?" reply with "Jott notes". After the beep record the message you would like transcribed into text. Remember to speak clearly and to avoid using slang for the best transcription quality.
From the website: Type your Jott Note in the text box at the top of your dashboard, or any list.
From the iPhone app: Tap anywhere to start recording and tap again to stop recording.

Q: How do I move a note to a list?
A: From the website: Click the orange tab that appears when you mouse over the note and drag it to the list you'd like to add it to.
From Jott Express: Highlight the message you would like to move by clicking on it. Click the "Move to…" button from the top menu and then the list you would like to move that note to.
From Jott for iPhone: Tap the note you would like to move, then from the detail screen tap the move button (folder icon with arrow) and then the list you would like that note to move to.

Q: How do I delete a note?
A: From the website: Click the "x" icon on the left of the note, this will send that note to the trash. To delete more than one note at time on a PC hold down the Control key and select all the notes you would like to delete, then click and drag those items to the trash icon in the bottom left of the screen. To delete more than one note a time on a Mac, hold down the Shift key and select all the notes you would like to delete, then click and drag those items to the trash icon in the bottom left of the screen.
From Jott Express: Mark the item complete by clicking the check icon and then click the "Clean Up" option in the menu bar, this will send that note to your trash. You can also highlight the note you would like to delete by clicking on it, or click on several notes to delete more than one at a time, and then choosing the Trash option from the "Move to…" drop down menu.
From Jott for iPhone: Take the note you would like to delete. From the Jott Detail screen, tap the trash icon.

Q: Can I set a reminder for a note I've already created?
A: You sure can! From the website or Jott Express: Simply click the bell icon next to note you would like to add a reminder to. You will be prompted to enter which day and time you'd like to receive that reminder, as well as if you'd like to receive it as a text message and/or email.

Q: How long can a Jott Note be?
A: That depends on which Jott plan you are using. For Jott Basic and Jott customers, voice-to-text notes can be up to 15 seconds long. For Jott Pro users, voice-to-text notes can be up to 30 seconds long. For pay-as-you-go customers, voice notes can be up to 60 seconds long.

Q: I am signed up for a premium account but am not receiving notes via text message, what should I do?
A: The first step is to make sure you have opted to receive text message receipts of the Jott Notes you create and Jott messages you send to others or Jott Links. Jott cannot send texts to every carrier (most major carriers are supported), please check this list to see if Jott can send texts to you. If you have selected that option and your carrier is supported, please fill out a support form and we can help figure out what may be going on.

Q: How do I create a reminder?
A: From your phone: Call 866-JOTT-123 and say "Reminder" when asked "Who do you want to Jott?" You'll be prompted to select the time and day of that reminder and then state the subject of your reminder. Hang up when you're done and you'll receive an email and text message 15 minutes prior to the time your reminder was set for.
From the website: To set a reminder from the Jott.com website, click the bell icon next to the Jott note you'd like to add a reminder to. You will be prompted to select the day and time you'd like to receive the reminder, as well as if you'd like it as an email, text message, or both.
From Jott Express: To set a reminder from Jott Express, click the bell icon next to the Jott note you'd like to add a reminder to. You will be prompted to select the day and time you'd like to receive the reminder, as well as if you'd like it as an email, text message, or both.

Q: Do I get reminders as text messages or emails?
A: If you create the reminder over the phone, you will receive the reminder as both an email and text message. If you created the reminder from the Jott website or Jott Express, you will receive the reminder in the locations you specified when you first created that reminder.

Q: How do I opt out of receiving text message reminders?
A: There are two ways you can opt to not receive text message reminders:
  1. Uncheck the text message box that appears in that specific note's reminder. You can do this by clicking on the bell icon next to that reminder on the Jott website or Jott Express, unchecking the text message box and saving the changes.
  2. Reply to any text message you have received from Jott with STOP, but be very careful when you select this option, as you will no longer be able to receive ANY text message sent through the Jott service, including ones contacts may be trying to send you.

Q: My reminder came at the wrong time, what should I do?
A: Please note reminders are sent 15 minutes before the time you set them for. If you are receiving reminders at the wrong time, please check your time zone setting in the Profile section of My Account page. If you are modifying or setting reminders by going to Jott Express or Jott.com also make sure your computer's time zone is set correctly. If you are still having trouble, please fill out a support form and we will investigate for you.

A: No, at the moment reminders are only available to set for one specific event, not for recurring events.

A: From the website: Login to your account and click the "Add list" button on the left hand side of the screen. Enter the name of your list and save it.
From Jott Express: Click the spoke icon to open the options drop down menu and choose "Add List". Enter the name of your list and click the "Ok" button.
From Jott for iPhone: From the "Notes" screen tap the Edit button and then the "Add List" button. Tap in the text field to bring up the keyboard and enter the name of your new list and save.

Q: Can I add an item right to a list when I call Jott?
A: A: You sure can!
From your mobile phone: When you call Jott, reply with the name of the list you'd like to add a note to when asked "Who do you want to Jott".
From the iPhone app: Tap the list you'd like to add a note to and then the record icon. The note you record you will automatically be added to that list.

Q: How do I delete a list?
A: From the Jott website: Click on the list you would like to delete and choose the "Delete List" option from the "More Options" drop down menu. You will be asked to confirm that you would like to delete this list and then all the contents of that list will be moved to the trash.
From Jott Express: Click the list you would like to delete and then choose the "Delete this list" option from the Options drop down menu.
From Jott for iPhone: Tap on the list you would like to delete and then the Edit button. Tap the "Delete List" option and confirm that you would like to delete that list. .

Q: Can I name a list anything I want to?
A: Yes you can. However, if you are a premium account customer (Jott, Jott Pro, or pay-as-you-go) and have added contacts to your account, be sure not to name a list the same name as a contact or this will confuse our voice recognition system.

Q: How do I print my lists?
A: From website click on the list you'd like to print and then choose the "Send to Printer" option from the "More Options" drop down menu. At the moment you cannot print your lists from Jott Express.

A: If you haven't already added contacts to your account, please follow the steps to do so here. Q: How do I add contacts?
A: Click on the "Add Contacts" section on the right hand side of the screen. From there you will see three ways you can add contacts: manually, import them from a web based email such as Hotmail or Gmail, or use a CSV file to import them from Outlook.
The contact information you provide for the person denotes where a Jott message will be sent- if you add just their phone number they will only get text messages, if you add just their email address they will receive just emails, if you add both they will receive an email and text message.
If you are importing contacts from your web based email service, be aware that they will not import mobile phone numbers, you will need to add them if you wish to send that person a text message.

Q: What on earth is a CSV file?
A: A CSV file stands for Comma Separated Values and it is simply a spreadsheet with your data (contacts) in it. You can use a CSV file to upload your contacts to Jott. If you have never used a CSV file before, we recommend trying to import just a handful of contacts first, to make sure they show up in your Jott account the way you want them to (first and last name, email address, cell phone number). If you plan to use a CSV file to import your contacts from Gmail, make sure to select the option "Outlook's CSV format (for importing into Outlook or other applications)"

Q: How do I delete a contact?
A: Click the Contacts section of the right hand column and then mouse over the name of the contact you'd like to delete. Click the trash icon that appears when you mouse over that contact. Your contact will then be moved to the trash and deleted from any groups.
To delete multiple contacts at once hold down your control key and click the contacts you would like to select (Shift+click on a Mac) then drag the contacts you have selected to the trash using the orange tab.
To delete all of your contacts go to your contact list and select "delete all contacts" under the "more options" menu.

Q: I cannot get your voice recognition to understand a contact's name, what can I do?
A: Pronunciations of proper nouns like names vary greatly. To help with this, we've added a "Sounds Like" feature to contacts. To use this feature, click on the contact you are having trouble with. You'll see a "Sounds Like" text box where you can phonetically spell out how you pronounce that person's name. For instance, you can spell Andrea as And dree ah, or as Aan dre ah.

Q: How long can a message to a contact be?
A: That depends on which plan you have signed up for. If you are using Jott that message can be up to 15 seconds long. If you are using Jott Pro your message can be up to 30 seconds long. If you are using a pay-as-you-go option your message can be up to 60 seconds.
Remember when sending a text message that most carriers only permit 160 characters per message, anything over that will be delivered to your contact in more than one text message.

Q: My contact isn't getting the text message, what's wrong?
A: If your contact is on a major US mobile carrier, the text will come from the short code 40101 (don't worry, as soon as they open the message it says the message is coming from you). Please be sure that your contact can receive texts from short codes and knows the Jott message will arrive from the number 40101.
If your contact is in Canada or on a smaller rural US carrier, the text will come from the email address nofity@jott.com. Please make sure your contact is able to receive text messages from email addresses. If neither of these are the case, and you are sure that you entered their phone number correctly in their contact information, fill out a support form and we'll investigate for you.

A: This could be a few things- the first is to make sure that your contact has checked their spam/junk folder and added notify@jott.com to their safe list (don't worry, the email does appear to come from you, but for security reasons get sent from our standard address). A: The most common problem is the Blogger ID. The Blogger ID is not your Blogger login. Your Blogger ID can be found in the URL when you are managing your Blogger blog. For example: http://www.blogger.com/post.create.g?blogID=223344. In this example the blog ID is "223344".

Q: Why are my Google Calendar events being added at the wrong time?
A: Most likely the time zone for that specific Google Calendar is off. To check this, please log on to your calendar and go to the Settings page. Once you are there, select the Calendars tab and choose the calendar (or calendars) that you are sending Jott messages to. About half way down all the calendar setting options you will see another time zone option.

Q: am concerned about giving Jott my Google login information. How can I be sure it is safe?
A: Jott never actually gathers your login information. Google uses something called "Authentication Tokens". What this means is that you tell Google that you are ok with Jott accessing your calendar. You never give Jott your Google username or password. You only allow Jott to access to your account to make changes. You can, at any time, go to your Google account and change it to "deny" access.

A: If you are hosting your blog locally, provide the URL of where the xmlrpc.php file is located. For example, if the xmlrpc.php can be found at http://url/xmlrpc.php, enter http://url next to "Blog URL:". If you have any add-ons on your blog that might block Jott from posting, make sure you have either turned them off or added Jott to their white list.

A: You can add any of the Featured Feeds we offer to your account by logging on to your account and clicking the "Add Feeds" button on the right hand side of your inbox. Add any other feed you like by selecting the "Add your own feed" option.

A: Yes, it does. The time you spend on the phone listening to your RSS Feeds will count as minutes used in your mobile phone plan. Worried about using up all your minutes? You'll have all the functionality of Jott available without using up your minutes.

Q: How do I add a custom RSS feed to my account?
A: Click the "Add your own feed" button in the upper right hand corner of the "Browse Feeds" page and enter the following information:
  • Name = What you'd like to call the feed.
  • URL = The address of that feed.
  • Sounds Like= If the feed name is hard to pronounce, you can spell it out phonetically.
  • Phone Key= The number you assign so you can access the feed by pressing a key on your phone keypad
  • Read Description= Would you like to hear the description of the new post before you hear the entire thing?

A: If you are using IE, right click on the RSS link for that feed and select "Properties". There you will see the "Address" or the URL of that feed.

Q: How do I reset my password on Jott for iPhone?
A: At the moment, there is no way to reset your password from the iPhone application. If you have validated your email address, use the Forgot Password? link on the login page, and you will be sent an email of your new password. If you have not validated your eamil address use the same link and your password will be texted to you.
If you haven't validated your email and you would like to do so, go to the Emails section of My Account page and send yourself a validation link. If you are in the US, registered through the iPhone and have not validated your email address, and use the forgot password link, you will be texted your new password. If you do not want to validate your email and would like us to reset your password for you, please submit a support form requesting a new password. Everyone can change their password by going to the Security section of My Account page.

A: We need your phone number for one simple reason- when you download the Jott for iPhone app and are new to Jott you'll need to create a Jott account. For now we've kept the iPhone app really focused on notes, but via our phone number you can create reminders, send hands-free texts and emails and use popular Jott Links like Twitter, Amazon and Google Calendar.

Once you've got your menu set the just to your liking, tap the "Done" button on the upper right hand of the screen. If the "More" option does not appear for you, that means you don't have enough lists to customize your bar yet, add another list and it will appear.

A: In some cases, the application cannot connect to the internet even though your browser can. In these cases, you should check if the APN (Access Point Name) is set correctly. For most BlackBerry handhelds, this setting can be found under 'Options', 'Advanced Options', then 'TCP' and set the appropriate APN for your carrier - you can find here.
